Mid Yorkshire Hospitals and University partner search for next generation of nurses

The trust has agreed to offer placements across all three of their hospital sites for students studying the BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) degree programme based at Dewsbury and District Hospital.

David Melia, Director of Nursing and Quality at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals, said: “We are passionate about education and work very hard to ensure all nurses who join us on placements have the opportunity to experience working across a wide range of areas.”

Staff from the university and Mid Yorkshire Hospitals will be available to discuss options during a drop in session in the reception area of the main Ridings Building at Dewsbury and District Hospital on Thursday 14 December from 10am to 2pm. Staff from the Trust and the university will be on hand to offer advice on the UCAS application process, personal statements and entry requirements. Places are available on courses beginning in April 2018 and Ruth Girdham, Head of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership at the University of Bradford, said: “We are excited about meeting people interested in studying adult nursing with us at this drop in session.

“We are really pleased to have joined up with Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust to enable more students to carry out placements close to where they are studying, at Dewsbury.”

The School hopes to recruit up to 100 students by March 2018, boosting nursing recruitment for the Trust and widening degree course participation in the local area.

The University has agreed to offer its existing pre-registration nursing programme to students on site at Dewsbury and District Hospital, and the Trust will be offering Registered Nurse posts to students on successful completion of the programme.
