UoB/Well

About the project

UoB/Well is a project funded by the OfS to break down the stigma and taboo over mental health.

The University of Bradford has partnered with BDCFT (Bradford District Care Foundation Trust) and MyWellbeing IAPT service, Working Academy (WA) and University of Bradford Union of Students (UBU) to improve the take up of mental health support by South Asian students.  The project is supporting students to maintain good mental wellbeing throughout their studies, and encouraging them to seek support as required, contributing to improvements in attainment.

The project seeks to innovate in improving take up of mental health support by students by creating a web app, specifically focused on the needs of students.  The app has been created by and for students at the University of Bradford.

Students at the University of Bradford can now access a range of mental health and other support online. The uobwell app is free to students and hosts an array of support and is aimed at increasing mental health support amongst students.

The idea behind the app was to overcome the stigma associated with seeking mental health support and to empower students who would not normally access mental health services. Statistics show that where students have an issue affecting their mental health, if they seek support, they go on to achieve better results, so therefore we want all students to know about the app.

The app gives students access to information any time, any place, anywhere. It is a simple way to work on your mental health. You can use the app to find information about mental health problems, symptoms and treatment options. It also provides a range of uses including:

  • General information and links to other relevant sites e.g., Counselling and Wellbeing Service, PALS, Disability services etc.
  • Lifestyle and wellbeing support, like tips for practising mindfulness, sleep, studying, making friends, tackling loneliness
  • Self-help support for people struggling with mental health problems like depression and anxiety
  • Making appointments with the University Counselling and Wellbeing Service and how to seek support from a mental health advisor.

This new digital wellbeing resource brings together multiple services and signposting students to them including the informal access to students’ mental health ambassadors.

Get Involved as a student mental health ambassador

Student mental health ambassadors are all students studying at the university who want to make it easier for their peers to access support and achieve their full potential.  Look out for them, you’ll see them at wellbeing events that take place across the academic year.

More information about the app, the mental health ambassador role and the events taking place can be found at @UoBWell.

To find out how you can get involved or want to speak to a student mental health ambassador get in touch by emailing [email protected]

Below is a quote from a Mental Health Ambassador who has worked on the project.

Being able to support other students and providing valuable mental health information has been fantastic.
