Professor Mallen gained his PhD in myopia - or ‘short-sightedness’ - from Aston University.
He joined the University of Bradford optometry staff in 2003. His primary research interests are the development of refractive error, accommodation control, neural adaptation to blur and adaptive optics.
Professor Mallen is a former President of the College of Optometrists.
