Dr Ana Barbosa
Assistant Professor in Dementia Studies

Dr Barbosa is the Programme Leader for the MSc in Advanced Dementia Studies and module leader for Arts and Activities in Dementia Care, as well as Advanced Practice: Methods and Skills.
Her PhD thesis was entitled "Supporting dementia care workers - exploring the effects of a psycho-educational intervention," and her research interests focus on the care home workforce and how to improve person-centred care, as well as the wellbeing of staff and people living with dementia.
Dr Barbosa has been involved in a number of research studies, including
- Understanding the relationship, intimacy and sexual needs of people affected by dementia and partners who live in the community, funded by Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust, Research Capacity Funding grant (2018)
- Falls in Care Homes, funded by the National Institute for Health Research. University of Nottingham (UK) (2016-2019)
- Sounds4Health (COPD), funded by Portuguese National Research Council (2010-2011)
She is also part of a taskforce group on Technology and Dementia, as part of INTERDEM, a pan-European group of academics and researchers looking into early, timely and quality interventions in dementia.
