Reader in the Faculty of Life Sciences

Expertise: Nano dots, colloidal nanoparticle synthesis, size-related optical properties (absorbance, emission), surface modification, assembly and charge transport of and within nanoparticles, applications of NPs for clean energy production, sensors, catalysis etc.

Dr Stephen Hickey's work revolves around advanced materials, in particular so-called 'nano dots', which have numerous applications, from assisting with the detection of cancer and other diseases, to enhancing telecommunications. He and his colleagues are engaged in several areas of original research.
