Lectures in the University of Bradford’s largest lecture theatre will never be the same again, thanks to a new 10m-wide 4K resolution LED screen.

The display has been installed by audio-visual experts Roche AV and is part of a £3.5m campus-wide upgrade of new technology to enhance the student experience.

The screen - which is actually two separate 4.8m-wide, 1.2mm pixel-pitch LEDs placed side-by-side - has been installed in the Horton D lecture theatre, affectionately known as ‘the Barn’.

In addition, new audio-visual equipment has been installed in clinical areas in the Horton A building, together with around £600,000-worth of new IT equipment in the University's computer science labs.

Russ Hind, Head of IT Service Delivery at the University, said: “This flagship installation is part of a multi-year project to enhance our collaboration, learning, and development environments using the latest audio-visual technologies on several projects around the University."

Stafford Lund, Sales Manager, Roche AV, said: “We were thrilled with this LED installation which must be seen - and heard - to be believed. We're especially proud of the Barn as it features our largest LED wall to date at an impressive 9.6 metres wide. We look forward to collaborating closely with the University in the coming years and upholding this high standard of installation."

The £3.5m investment in new technology is in addition to a recent £2m revamp of the Student Central area and a £1.6m upgrade to the University's J B Priestley Library.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Shirley Congdon said: "Students who come to study at the University of Bradford rightly expect to be able to interact with the latest technology. This latest investment is part of our commitment to continually improve the student experience."
