University of Bradford retains Green Flag Award
University of Bradford has once again been awarded the coveted Green Flag Award as it is officially recognised as one of the country’s best parks and green spaces.
The University of Bradford was first awarded the Green Flag in 2015 and has retained it ever since. It is one of a record 2,216 parks and green spaces receiving the Green Flag Award this year and is testament to the hard work and dedication of the university's grounds team.
Richard Hirst, Buildings Operation Manager at the University of Bradford, said: "We are very proud to retain this external recognition of the quality of our grounds. The Main Campus is an asset to the city of Bradford and is valued by local people as well as our students and staff. The award reflects the hard work that our dedicated staff put in to maintaining the University grounds to the highest standard."
The University's green spaces include wildflower meadows and herb beds. This year has seen the addition of a small pond with bullrushes, irises and white lily, which are good for attracting wildlife.
Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd MBE said: "I would like to congratulate everyone involved at the University of Bradford in achieving a Green Flag Award.
"The University of Bradford is a vital green space for the community in Bradford, bringing people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles. The staff and volunteers do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement."
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
