This year’s competition is once again being sponsored by Bradford law firm Proctor & Hobbs.

School of Law contestants will take part in a series of live-streamed mock trials, each based around a fictitious set of circumstances. The mock trials will take place in the university’s very own mock courtroom, the Lady Hale Court.

The competition provides an excellent opportunity for our students to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the substantive law as well as develop a range of practical skills in a real-world setting and therefore gain valuable experience. We’re extremely grateful to our sponsors Proctor & Hobbs for supporting this competition, which is now into its third year.”

Professor Amir Sharif, Dean of the Faculty of Management, Law & Social Sciences, said: “The University of Bradford is making huge strides in terms of putting its equality, diversity and inclusion agenda into practise. This is about us giving our students an opportunity, it's about removing barriers by enabling them to be part of an experience that chimes with the career paths many of them will go on to pursue.”

The public will have an opportunity to vote for their best candidate with the public vote accounting for 40% of the points awarded to each candidate. The balance 60% will be based on marks awarded by members of staff from both Proctor & Hobbs and University of Bradford.

All mock trials focus on invented scenarios, as outlined below:-

  • Wednesday March 15: Maleeha Hussain and Terreh Chika-Onuegbu (both 2nd year students) - theft scenario
  • Thursday March 16: David Eke and Hannah Thwaite (both 1st year students) - assault scenario
  • Friday March 17: Adam Ahmed (2nd year) and Adesola Aladekoba (post-graduate student) – criminal damage to property scenario

Each mock-trial will commence at 2pm and will be live-streamed via P&H YouTube channel, link: youtube.com/@ProctorHobbsOfficial
