The University of Bradford Eye Clinic, where many optometrists learn their trade, is looking to recruit patients from its staff, students and the general public.

Not only does it use the very latest in cutting-edge eye care technology, it could also save you money, with free eye tests and significant discounts on glasses and contact lenses.

University Vice-Chancellor Professor Shirley Congdon recently visited the clinic to undergo an eye test and see the facilities for herself.

She said: “It is the most detailed eye test I have ever had, and I would certainly recommend this to anyone who wants a professional approach by staff who are experts in their field. The fact the clinic is run by staff who actually teach optometry, and who are actively engaged in research, only enhances the quality of what they offer. It’s also a very welcoming and relaxed environment and staff are more than happy to answer questions.”

The clinic, which is housed in the Digital Health Enterprise Zone off Shearbridge Road, offers a number of services, including eye examinations, contact lens checks and fitting, complex contact lens fitting, binocular vision and visual stress, childhood myopia (short-sightedness) and dry eye clinics. In addition it also runs collaborative clinics with Bradford Royal Infirmary in visual electrodiagnostics and glaucoma.

Dr Neema Ghorbani Mojarrad, lecturer at the University and locum optometrist, said: “The Eye Clinic offers comprehensive eyecare services with substantial savings for staff and students of the University.

“I would encourage anyone who either works or studies on campus to take full advantage of our services. Members of the public are more than welcome in our clinics, again with a range of potential cost savings. All appointments are supervised by registered optometrists and provide valuable experience for our students.”

Director of the University’s Eye Clinic, Dr Alison Alderson added: "We are very proud of the range and quality of eyecare services we provide and we welcome all new patients, whether they are staff or students of the University, or members of the public."
