University of Bradford donates PPE kit and stocks of ethanol to local hospitals and care homes

The University of Bradford has donated hundreds of pieces of protective eye wear, masks and its current stock of ethanol for cleaning medical equipment to local care facilities and hospitals.

Plans are also underway to supply dozens more personal protective equipment (PPE) gowns, shoe protection and more eye wear, as part of the national effort to support our NHS during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prof Alastair Goldman, Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Bradford, said: “We have already donated around 100 litres of ethanol, which can be used to keep vital equipment in intensive care units clean. We have also supplied over a hundred pieces of protective eye wear. We will continue to do what we can to support the national effort.”

The University has a stock of such equipment for use in teaching students safely when using chemicals or biological materials.

Prof Goldman added: “It’s important to make it as easy as possible for the people on the front line of the health service to do their jobs.”

The University’s vice-chancellor, Professor Shirley Congdon, said: “It is so important that all of us in Bradford do the best we can to meet this enormous challenge. I’m glad we are able to redirect some of our stocks to support front-line services. We will be working closely with the District Gold Command coordinated response to identify how else we can support our city and our communities through this emergency and beyond.”
