Rowing to raise awareness of mental health
The University of Bradford is encouraging staff and students to take part in a 2020 mile rowing challenge.
The challenge, known as Row Britannia, has been set by the British Inspiration Trust (BRIT) to raise money for Sport Relief.
Every University and College in the UK has been encouraged to register a team to raise vital funds but to also raise awareness of Mental Health, Fitness and Wellbeing.
The University of Bradford is launching its challenge on Thursday 5 March on University Mental Health day, with Vice-Chancellor Professor Shirley Congdon opening the event and rowing the first mile.
As many people as possible will then be encouraged to take their turn on the rowing machine which will be located at various locations across the University over the next two weeks. The team hope to raise £3000 in total and will be having a session with an adapted rowing machine on Thursday 11 as part of the Students’ Union inclusive community day.
Nikki Pierce, Academic Registrar said: “We are really pleased to be working with our students’ union to support such a worthy cause and to raise awareness of mental health issues and the importance of personal wellbeing.”
Adam Tasker from the Students’ Union Said: “It’s going to be an exciting two weeks as it’s no mean feat rowing 2020 miles. I love the fact that thanks to our adapted rowing machine everyone can participate regardless of ability and I’m really looking forward to it.”
