University host 'One Britain One Nation' event
The University is hosting the One Britain One Nation event, designed to inspire every child to love their nation.
The Bradford event, which is part of a national campaign to create a sense of unity and pride, will take place on Friday 16 March in the Great Hall at the University of Bradford, 10-11.30am.
The event will be compered by Director of External Affairs Mark Garratt and will include a welcome from the Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Cantor and live performances by local school children as well as a range of keynote speakers.
Keynote speakers will be
- Michael Jameson, Strategic Director of Children Services at Bradford Council
- John Grogan MP Keighley and Ilkley
- Julie Robinson, General Secretary of the Independent Schools Council
- The Lord Mayor of Bradford Cllr Abid Hussain
- Ryan Sidebottom, former England and Yorkshire cricketer
- Bishop Tony Parry
The event will launch the One Nation One Day (OBON) event on June 29 which is part of a national campaign to celebrate the values we share: tolerance, kindness, pride, respect.
The campaign will constitute a call to action, which is intended to reach out to all schools with a focus on creating a sense of national unity and pride. Its essence is that of forging a sense of togetherness with pride, so that every child is inspired to love their nation. OBON is keen to engage education influencers, community developers, Civic and City Leaders and many more with the campaign.
Mark Garratt, Director of External Affairs, said: “This campaign is designed to celebrate diversity and the values that we all share such as tolerance, kindness, respect, and a desire to help others. I am proud to say the University has always embraced and championed these values and will continue to do so, for example in our Diversity Festival which takes place next week.”
