Bradford scientist receives healthcare award
Biomedical scientist and Bradford alumna Chloe Lockwood has been awarded the Rising Star Award at this year's Chief Scientific Officer's Healthcare Science Awards.
Held in the presence of HRH The Princess Royal, these awards celebrate the celebrate the contributions of healthcare scientists to the NHS and the broader healthcare system.
The CSO HCS awards are held as part of the annual CSO conference. The awards celebrate how healthcare scientists are integral to a multidisciplinary and multi-professional NHS and aim to showcase the developments being made by healthcare scientists in their services across the NHS.
The Rising Star Award is awarded to an individual in the early stage of their career in healthcare sciences who are already performing highly in their chosen area and have shown signs of greater things to come.
This award recognises the passion and enthusiasm Chloe demonstrated as the scientific lead when delivering one of the biggest laboratory digitisation projects in the world. Chloe implemented an entire digital workflow, training schedule and created evidence required for digital pathology ISO accreditation.
Chloe is a member of the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) and a biomedical scientist in histopathology at St James University Hospital in Leeds. She is working with Leica Biosystems to implement a full digital pathology workflow in the NHS histopathology department. She has been the scientific lead on preparing the laboratory and all staff to go digital by the end of 2018.
Chloe, who earned her BSc (Hons) in Applied Biomedical Science from the University of Bradford in 2013, commented, “The awards are an excellent way for showcasing and recognising the work that healthcare scientists do in the NHS. It was an honour to be invited to the ceremony, share the evening with brilliant people, and an even bigger honour to receive the award! It was a great experience to represent biomedical scientists across the NHS and Leeds Teaching Hospitals along with all the other nominees and award winners.”
