Security Staff Commended
Dean Wood and Steve Guest have received a commendation in the recent Vice-Chancellors Awards for Outstanding Achievement.
On the evening of 19 June 2016 they spotted someone acting suspiciously on CCTV and sprang into action. After calling the police they apprehended the person as he exited Horton D and detained him until the police arrived. During the resultant search, he was found to have stolen camera equipment from the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics worth an estimated £35,000. I am sure we would have struggled to identify the suspect or recover any of the equipment. Without their diligence and prompt action the theft would have caused the Outside Broadcast team quite a few problems at several events, including the 2016 graduation ceremonies.
The suspect was subsequently charged, convicted and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
