Yorkshire and Humber radiography recruitment fair
The University of Bradford hosted a recruitment fair, co-organised with the University of Leeds, on Saturday 12th March for undergraduate diagnostic radiography students.
Twelve NHS Trusts representing more than 20 hospitals from around the Yorkshire and Humber region came to talk to second and third year students about the career opportunities in their radiology departments.
It was a great opportunity for students to meet prospective employers, find out about job opportunities, career paths, and future support for their development. Many students were not aware of the number of employers and opportunities on their doorstep, and found it a really worthwhile day.

This event built on the success of the first event last year which was held at the University of Leeds. Both employers and students said they thought the event should run annually. It is hoped that next year’s event will attract even more radiography students from all over the UK.

What our attendees said:
“This event was the perfect opportunity for both the prospective radiographers and employers to discuss the professional developments and opportunities on offer as a radiographer working in the NHS, in an open and relaxed environment."
I thought the event was well worth a visit especially if you had not secured a job. It gave you the opportunity to ask questions about the trust, obtain information that isn't necessarily available on their websites and meet people who actually work within the radiology department. You got a feel for where you might see yourself working, which could potentially warrant a personal visit.
It also alleviated some concerns about starting work as many of the trusts offer mentoring programmes to new starters.
"The ability to discuss with employers about the different opportunities they offer was eye opening and to gain information about living near the trusts."
"I personally was relieved to have clarity and assurance in relation to perceptorships /mentors for newly qualified radiographers.”
"Sheffield hospital provided an amazing resource for a small charge of £5, explaining useful information about radiographer recruitment."
