The University of Bradford has again been recognised for its pioneering work on sustainability after winning two major awards and being shortlisted for a third.

The Directorate of Estates and Facilities won the 2016 Public Sector Energy Champions Awards, recognising excellence in energy management at a national level. The awards took place at the Excel Arena in London, presided over by Minister of Energy Lord Redesdale.

The directorate’s Estates team also won Facilities Management Team of the Year at the inaugural CIBSE (Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers) Yorkshire Awards 2016, at the Royal Armouries in Leeds. The team has also been shortlisted in the National CIBSE Awards for Facilities Management Team of the Year.

The judges at the CIBSE Yorkshire Awards said: “There is excellent evidence of benchmarking to check their performance as well as a high degree of feedback from building occupants. They engage well with both staff and students in a manner that is appropriate to each audience. The University of Bradford clearly has a strong drive to improve their sustainability ranking and are working well to achieve that goal.”

University Head of Estates, Russell Smith, said: “It is extremely pleasing to see the whole team recognised for all their hard work and dedication as a team delivering exceptional facilities management results and services for the University. To be recognised at a national level for our achievements in energy management is testament to the team’s achievement in our profession.”
