Wheelchair grant boosts University of Bradford disabled sport
Disabled sport at the University of Bradford has received a huge boost with the award of a major grant.
The city campus-based Cycling 4 All (C4A) project has secured £25,372 from the Peter Harrison Foundation, an independent trust supporting voluntary and community groups, to buy 10 ORacing top-of-the-range, custom-built basketball wheelchairs.
When the chairs are available, Cycling 4 All will set up a basketball team and will further develop the wheelchair rugby team. However, the wheelchairs will be available to all sports and societies at the University.
Cycling 4 All coordinator Adam Tasker said: “We’re delighted with the award of this grant, which will allow us to do so much more. The impact that C4A has had on the student body has been pleasing with tennis, volleyball, snow sports and equestrian now offering regular inclusive sessions.
“We have developed a model of inclusion that incorporates mixed ability participation. We are taking this forward with the use of the chairs, once they arrive. They will be for everyone to use, whether you have a disability or not, which will help build Bradford's growing reputation as an inclusive university.”
