University of Bradford strengthens ties with China

Published:

The University of Bradford has strengthened its ties with China following a meeting with representatives of the Sino-British College (SBC).

The meeting follows recent University of Bradford visits to SBC, part of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology.

Next year, SBC will mark their 10th anniversary, coinciding with the University of Bradford’s 50th celebrations. As part of those activities the University will host a graduation event in Shanghai in April 2016.

Senior representatives of both institutions discussed strategic links between the two, with a focus on the college’s strategic development over the next ten years.

SBC was established as a collaboration between the University of Bradford, eight other Northern Consortium UK (NCUK) member universities, and the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. It is a fully licensed university college, recognised as a legal joint venture institution by the Chinese Ministry of Education, with 1,700 students. All programmes are taught entirely in English.

Dr Karen Jackson, the University of Bradford’s development director for China and East Asia, said: “The University of Bradford values its partnership with the Sino-British College highly and we hope to work ever more closely in the future. We are exploring staff and student exchange programmes and teaching collaborations, particularly in the field of engineering.”
