University disability network celebrates national recognition
A University of Bradford network for promoting disability equality has been shortlisted for two national awards.
The group, , has also been added to a national list of ‘Awesome Networks’, compiled by the website Inclusive Networks.
The nominations, for Inclusive Networks’ 2015 awards, see n-able shortlisted for two categories: health and wellbeing network of the year and network leaders of the year.
They recognise the network for organising Disability History Month at the University, and network leaders Gill Cockburn and Cath Rose for the time and passion that they dedicate to ensuring that disabled staff issues are firmly on the University’s agenda.
Gill said: “We want to ensure that disability is celebrated, and work towards achieving an inclusive experience on campus. The strategic work of n-able feeds into the Equality and Diversity Committee and we work closely alongside other staff networks. We have achieved a great deal working alongside the University and we feel very honoured to be shortlisted and to have been recognised as an Awesome Network.”
The awards ceremony takes place in Manchester in November. n-able are also steering plans for the Diversity Festival which will take place at the University from 18th – 23rd of April 2016.
Notes: n-able meets four times a year in an informal setting to discuss issues, initiatives and support on a range of disability matters and organise social activities. It is open to staff who are disabled or have an interest in disability issues.

- Raise awareness of disability
- Discuss and address common issues or problems
- Provide mutual support
- Share knowledge
- Provide a voice for disabled staff.
