New PhD Studentship in dementia care in imaging departments

We are delighted that Emily Lewis has recently begun a PhD in Dementia Care in Imaging Departments (DeCIDe) with the Faculty of Health Studies.

The research will explore the experience of diagnostic imaging for people with dementia and their carers and seek to understand how radiographers adapt their practice to support this patient group. Very little research has been conducted in this area and Emily hopes that this study will develop an understanding of how people with dementia can be best supported within this setting.

The study will adopt an ethnographic approach and will include ethnographic observation, informal interviews and semi-structured interviews. Participants will include radiographers, people with dementia and their carers. From these findings some practice recommendations will be developed. During a second phase of the study these recommendations will be evaluated to determine their acceptability. This will be done through holding focus groups.

This research is being funded by the Alzheimer’s Society through their doctoral fellowship programme.
