The University of Bradford has been shortlisted in this year's Energy Awards

The awards recognise intelligent energy use and highlight the leaders of responsible energy consumption.

The University entered their innovative ‘Our Green Energy Challenge’ project. This involved bringing together different departments and external organisations, with the ultimate goal to drive utility reductions and slash carbon emissions, whilst fundamentally improving awareness of sustainability to staff and students.

The same project received recognition earlier in the summer being shortlisted for a Green Gown Award and the University will learn in November if they can add it to a number of sustainability and environmental gongs they have already been awarded.

Clive Wilson, Director of Estates and Facilities at the University, said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for the 2014 Energy Awards. This is the second time we have been shortlisted and is testament to the hard work the University has done to change behaviour and reduce carbon emissions.”

The project is unique to the University’s student accommodation, The Green, with the students taking local ownership and different departments working together to develop a partnership around sustainability. Some of the initiatives included students using the vegetable patches at The Green and the catering team sending a personal chef to cook a two-course meal for the house which saved most water.

The results will be announced on December 2 at an event in London.
