Certificates in Mentoring and Inspiring African Women on Peace and Security from Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in Accra, Ghana.

Over the last ten years, Mary Goretty has worked with different non-governmental organisations in Africa which include, African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies, UNITAMS, SAFERWORLD, FOSDA Ghana, CCO-Ethiopia, Hope Restoration South Sudan, Center for Inclusive Governance, Peace and Justice, AAH-International, Cooperation and Development(C&D) and Karimojong Women Advocacy for Transformation.
Goretty was born and raised in the Moroto District of the Karamoja region of Uganda. Her recent works include the development of the Gender Mainstreaming and Inclusion strategy for Karimojong Women Advocacy For Transformation, a community based organisation which is her own initiative. Goretty also recently signed a Memorundum of Understanding with Saferworld under the funding of the Austrian Development Agency to implement a project on Strengthening Integrated Peace, Resilience, and Disaster Risk Reduction for cross-border communities in Karamoja. In 2022, her initiative received a seed grant from UNDP Uganda to support vulnerable women headed households and three local primary schools.
Goretty also completed an Advanced Human Rights course on the Protection of Forcibly Displaced Persons in Africa from the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, South Africa. Goretty is committed to ensuring that programs of social inclusion are designed in ways that contribute to achieving gender equality, and respect for human rights in conflict sensitivity approaches.
