Mitrinovic Archive Cataloguing Project
In 2014-15 a major externally funded project brought the Mitrinovic/New Atlantis Archive to life. This Archive was created by charismatic Yugoslav philosopher Dmitrije Mitrinovic and his circle as they worked to explore all knowledge and find ways to a lasting peace in Europe. The Archive documents the inter-war ferment of ideas about culture and society and offers huge research potential in many subject areas (literature, art, politics, philosophy etc).
However, the Archive was large, complex and in very poor condition. We could not make it available to users. The Mitrinovic Foundation funded archival quality storage for the collection and enabled us to employ a project archivist to catalogue it to archival standards. Emma Burgham worked with us from 8 July 2014-5 November 2015. She did a fantastic job in uncovering and sharing the stories in this internationally significant archive. The finished catalogue is available via the Mitrinovic/New Atlantis Archive web page and on the Archives Hub. Share some of Emma's discoveries on the project blog, The Eleventh Hour.
Now we understand the content and significance of the Archive, we are working with the Foundation to find ways to bring it to wider audiences.
