Copyright and theses

Digital copies of Bradford PhD theses are submitted to the Library via the Hub, to be loaded into Bradford Scholars.

It is very likely that you will be quoting material by other authors in your work. Permission is not required when using third party copyright material in a thesis if you keep the length of quotations short, relevant to context and include appropriate acknowledgements. However, permission IS required when the quoted material is extensive and goes beyond the 'fair dealing' provision in the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. Students are urged to consider copyright issues early on in the writing up process to allow sufficient time for clearing copyright where necessary.

Contact the Library via [email protected] with any questions you may have about theses and copyright. We also recommend doctoral candidates attend one of the Library talks on theses and copyright.
