The Law Clinic

Our Law Clinic provides pro-bono legal advice, supporting those that most need it - whilst students gain the very best clinical legal education through the provision of a valuable social service that has the power to change lives.

Our partners

Our Law Clinic operates in collaboration with Bradford and Airedale Citizens Advice Bureau and Girlington Advice Centre in Bradford. We support our students to provide tailored legal advice to members of the public whilst providing our students with a ‘hands-on’, clinical legal education - ’Delivering Education Through Public Service’.

Would you like to be a Law Clinic Partner?

We are always looking for both private and third sector partner organisations to collaborate with and become involved in our legal clinics.

If you offer a legal advice service and would like to find out more about how we could work with you, please get in touch.

Creating Future Lawyers

Our 'Creating Future Lawyers' series is a bespoke programme delivered to schools and colleges in Bradford and across the region.

Through a series of lectures on current and emerging issues, the programme provides students with real knowledge about a broad range of law subjects, introducing students not only to the law as it currently is, but also helping them imagine the future of law that they will be a part of in our radically changing world.

Schools Mock Competition

In 2019/20 the School of Law Bradford introduced our annual Schools Mock Competition. Participants were prepared and supported for this competition by our excellent team of academics and students. In the first year of the competition, we welcomed teams from Hanson Academy, Dixons Kings Academy, Bradford Grammar School and Dixons Allerton Academy.

The four teams competed for over two rounds of competition, in which they took roles as prosecution and defence counsel arguing points of criminal law. All teams performed admirably, with Bradford Grammar School emerging as the eventual winners and were presented with their prize by Lady Hale in January 2020.

Working with our students

Our students are the workforce for tomorrow. Connecting legal professionals, businesses and community organisations with our students is instrumental to our University strategy. We have a wealth of experience in this area of collaboration and there are many mutually beneficial initiatives in our school which can be discussed to help you make the best use of your financial resources and time.

It may be that you are an alumni of the University or a passionate advocate for education and want to provide support to students on their journey to becoming early career professionals. You may be looking for a fresh set of eyes on an institutional problem? Or maybe you could be looking out for additional support in your working environment? We have a range of opportunities that can provide solutions:

  • Student involvement in business and community projects
  • Student internships and placements
  • Sponsoring student prizes
  • Offering professional insight and expertise to lectures, tutorials or programme development
  • Offering professional or entrepreneurial mentoring

Community outreach

Summer Community Celebration

Our Annual Community Celebration event provides an opportunity for our School of Law to open its doors and welcome in members of the Bradford locality. The event showcases the great relationship the School has with the Bradford district and beyond.

It is a fun event which recognises the contribution of our partners and celebrates the success of our students. And we explore new ways we can collaborate with local businesses and professionals in the public, private and third sector to give our students real-world experiences and for us to make a positive impact in our community.

Our Community Fellows

We recognise that Bradford community is one with diverse skills and expertise and by engaging with and fostering this talent we can find ways to give back to the City of Bradford.

Our Faculty Community Fellows are ambassadors who play a role in inspiring our students and staff to engage with the local community to support the development of the University and the City of Bradford.

Our Community Fellows work with faculty members to help develop sustainable collaborations with the local community for mutually beneficial outcomes. They also educate and inspire the local community about the work undertaken within the School of Law and wider University. If you are interested in becoming a Community Fellow please do get in touch.
