Work-life balance
Flexibility in the way we work
We are a campus-based University. We trust our employees to choose the best times and places to match the work that they do.
Working arrangements will be defined locally to ensure that they meet the needs of the individual, the team, and the University.
Family-friendly schemes
We offer family-friendly schemes such as maternity, shared-parental, paternity, adoption and special leave.
Annual leave entitlements
We have generous annual leave allowances of 25 days (Grades 2-8), 30 days (Grade 9+), up to five additional annual leave days linked to length of service. Bank holidays are also in addition to annual leave entitlement and we have five closure days at Christmas and Easter.
Holiday purchase scheme
You can purchase an additional 20 days of annual leave per holiday year.

You can visit our staff counselling service for confidential, emotional support for personal or work-related difficulties.

Our chaplaincy services are available to everyone including students, staff, family and friends.

We are a registered member of the University Mental Health Charter. This is demonstrative of our commitment to achieving cultural change in student and staff mental health and wellbeing across the whole university.

We are a Menopause Friendly Employer. Not only do we aspire to harness the collective talent across our diverse community, but we also aim to ensure that everyone understands menopause.

Basic salary and pay awards
As a Living Wage Foundation accredited employer, our pay scale tracks the real living wage rate.
We also give our staff incremental pay progression every April (to the top of the grade) and an annual cost of living rise.

Cycle to work
Our Cycle to Work scheme offers a £3000 allowance which can be used to purchase a bicycle and safety equipment for commuting to and from work and for use at evenings and weekends.

Gym - Unique Fitness
Our on-campus gym, Unique Fitness, offers subsidised membership to all University staff members. This gives you access to the two-floor gym, swimming pool, sports facilities and classes.
Physiotherapy and sports rehabilitation
The Physiotherapy and Sports Rehabilitation clinic is a student-led service with very reasonable rates.

We offer on-site car parking at a competitive price, with different permit options available depending on your requirements.
Nursery
We are proud to offer an Ofsted ‘outstanding’ rated nursery which provides high quality early years care and education for children from birth to five years.
