Healthy Ageing and Dementia Studies
Our focus is upon applied research and real world evaluation, which maintains the individual at its core.
The Centre for Applied Dementia Studies is a renowned hub for studies into dementia and ageing. Members of the team have a track record in ageing studies; for example, in the use of technologies to support ageing and living well. Our recently MRC funded Lifestyle Matters Program is a preventive health intervention for people without cognitive impairment.
As can be viewed on our dedicated webpages. The current portfolio of the Centre includes research into care and support for people at all stages of the dementia trajectory as well as ageing within in a care home environment. We also investigate living with multi morbidities in later life. We are particularly proud of our Experts-by-Experience volunteers who are people affected by dementia who consent to work with us on our research and associated education and training. We are also partners within the ‘frailty theme’ of the forthcoming NIHR ARC (applied research centre) and are pleased to be able to bring our expertise to the healthy ageing theme too for the Wolfson Centre for Applied Healthcare Research, a new partnership across the Universities of Bradford, Leeds and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
