Referring patients to the Eye Clinic

Our Eye Clinic works closely with professionals in the local community and across much of the region. We are also part of the Bradford Teaching Hospitals Referral Refinement Scheme and Ocular Hypertension Monitoring Scheme.

We accept referrals from a range of sources including:

  • Ophthalmologists
  • Optometrists
  • contact lens opticians
  • General Practitioners
  • educational psychologists
  • teachers

Clinical expertise and sophisticated equipment allow our Advanced Clinical Assessment Clinic to cater for the needs of Ophthalmologists requiring rapid, easy access to certain diagnostic techniques for their patients.

Referring to the Visual Electrodiagnostic Testing Unit

The Visual Electrodiagnostic Testing Unit within the Bradford School of Optometry and Vision Science provides a clinical testing service for ophthalmologists in the region and as such is linked to the regional NHS Trusts and private hospitals.

The service offers a range of key diagnostic tests that form part of the clinical ophthalmological assessment of patients who may be suffering from a variety of hereditary or acquired eye disorders.

Testing includes:

  • Visual evoked potential (VEP) recording
  • Pattern and flash electro-retinography (ERG)
  • Electro-oculography (EOG)

All of the above will conform to current ISCEV standards.

At present, there is little or no provision for this kind of diagnostic testing in the Bradford and W. Yorkshire region and patients are being sent to centres in Manchester, Sheffield and Newcastle in order for these tests to be performed. This is unsuitable from both the point of view of patients, as well as for clinicians who are exploring ways to improve waiting times.

We provide a quality visual electrodiagnostic service to the local region, embedded into the existing academic research and clinical infrastructure of Bradford School of Optometry & Vision Science.
