Student engagement at DHEZ

Overview of Student offering

Developing student skills to improve health outcomes

The DHEZ provides opportunities for students to develop professional experience by putting their learning into practice in our facilities.

This includes our public-facing eye and physiotherapy clinics and other placements and projects with our partner organisations.

More details below, including a case study where Plaster Technicians at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust connected with students and graduates from the University of Bradford to create an award-winning health innovation.

Video case study: QR code plaster casts

Charlene Brown and Ben Gracey, Plaster Technicians at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust had an idea for an informative app for patients with plaster casts accessible via a QR code on the cast itself.

They worked with students and graduates from the University of Bradford to create the app and measure its success.

Physiotherapy clinic

The Physiotherapy and Sport Clinic provides a full range of services to staff, students and members of the public within a teaching environment. All clinics are staffed by second and final year undergraduates under the supervision of experienced Physiotherapists and Sports Rehabilitators.

The Physiotherapy and Sport Clinic strives to produce Physiotherapists of the future by exploring ways to enhance the services offered. The physiotherapy team at DHEZ, will be integrating telehealth (using video for virtual health services) into its broader physiotherapy approach and, as part of a larger research team these services will involve more digital developments as they become available.

Find out more on the Physiotherapy Clinic website.

Tech House

Our Tech House/Living Lab facility offers digital health capabilities that are unique in the UK. The two bedroom house built within the Phoenix South West Building is a perfect place to test digital health prototypes in a 'real life' environment for industry or the health sector. This space is utilised by lecturers to provide a real-world environment for students to practice their health care skills in the home, such as future paramedics and health professionals.
