Centre for Applied Dementia Studies

The Centre for Applied Dementia Studies is making a substantial on-going contribution to dementia research, education, and training.

  • We are creating leaders in health and social care through postgraduate distance learning programmes in applied dementia studies
  • We undertake landmark research, with funding from the Medical Research Council, the National Institute of Health Research, the Department of Health and the Alzheimer's Society
  • Our Doctoral Training Centre aims to improve all those affected by dementia and has been developing the next generation of applied dementia researchers

Our Centre has been granted Alzheimer Disease International (ADI) accreditation in 2023. ADI accreditation recognises the high-quality dementia care education and training delivered by the Centre and our commitment in providing students with the best possible learning experience and supporting them to improve dementia practice. This accreditation is still unique across the sector.

PHD Project - Oladayo Bifarin

Oladayo Bifarin, PhD at the Centre for Applied Dementia Studies, has worked with the Digital Working Academy based at the University of Bradford to produce a short animation to illustrate the findings of his project Perceptions and experiences of caregivers of older relatives in mainland China - a multigenerational study.

Oladayo explains his reasons for producing the video:

"I wanted to make key findings accessible to general public to raise awareness around the need for culturally sensitive interventions and reinforce co-production strategies with family caregivers with the hope that it shapes future discourses around care for older relatives with a specific reference to Chinese society."

Challenging a dehumanising approach to dementia

Lindsey Collins is a Dementia Care Practice Development Consultant at the University of Bradford.

In her TedX talk, Lindsey shares her personal and professional experiences of people with dementia, and encourages viewers to stop seeing the dementia, and see the person first. This talk was delivered at TedX Maplewood, New Jersey on 29 February 2020.
