Overview

The Foundation Year is a pre-degree access programme that will provide you with a solid basis for future undergraduate study at the University of Bradford. This course is designed for students who do not have the necessary academic and/or English language qualifications for registration directly onto a degree course.

The Foundation Year offers an introductory grounding in your chosen discipline and equips you with the study and interpersonal skills necessary for effective undergraduate study.

Successful completion of this programme will enable you to progress to a range of degree programmes in management, social science, nursing, health and allied professions, life sciences, computer science, media, and law.

Plus minimum of

GCSE English grade C/grade 4 (equivalents accepted).

Additional entry requirements

If you don't have any Level 3 qualifications, we advise you to study an Access to Higher Education Diploma at a local college and then apply for degree-level entry at the University.

English language requirements

Minimum IELTS at 6.0 or the equivalent.

If you do not meet the IELTS requirement, and you have a UKVI approved IELTS, you can take a University of Bradford pre-sessional English course. See the Language Centre for more details. The Foundation Year is a great way to start your university studies. You will gain knowledge, understanding and transferable skills which will help you develop as an independent learner and help you succeed at university and beyond.

Some degree routes require you to study certain modules during the Foundation Year. A full list of available routes and study requirements on our Foundation year progression routes page.

If you do not possess the required International English Language Test Score (IELTS) for your intended follow-on programme but do possess IELTS at 1.0 point below the requirement, you will study the English for Academic Purposes and the English for Specific Academic Purposes modules.

2. Your Maths level:

If you do not possess GCSE Mathematics at Grade 4 (old grade C) or above or another recognised Level 2 Numeracy qualification and this is required for your follow-on degree programme, you will study the Mathematics and Statistics for Higher Education module.

Learning and assessment

You will learn via lectures, seminars, group tutorials, practical and simulation classes, and teamwork.

A range of assessments will be used, including essays, examinations, and presentations.
