Omar Wright

My name is Omar Wright and I am a proud citizen of the beautiful island of Jamaica.

I was born and raised in the vibrant city of Kingston and was recently awarded the Chevening Scholarship from the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office to pursue a Master of Arts Degree in International Development Management at the University of Bradford.

I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona in International Relations. During my tenure at the UWI, I
continued my involvement in student government and was selected as a UWISTAT Ambassador (the University of the West Indies Student Today
Alumni Tomorrow Vice-Chancellor’s Ambassador Corps) and also received the distinguished honor of being selected to participate in the Young Leaders of the Americas Town Hall Meeting hosted by President Barack Obama.

I am very passionate about development and I believe that my life’s mission is to bring hope to everyone that I come in contact with; be it through designing development projects to improve lives or just a warm smile and word of encouragement to a friend, stranger or colleague.

I currently serve as an Operations Analyst with the Inter-American Development Bank where I play an integral role in the design, implementation and monitoring of several modernization of state initiatives and citizen security and justice projects; including the design of a National Identification System for Jamaica and the Public Sector Transformation Programme with the Office of the Prime Minister and the Security Strengthening Project and the Citizen Security and Justice Programme with the Ministry of National Security.

I am a strong believer in the institution of family and credit my family the drive and discipline to succeed against all odds. I am also an active member in my church and community where I served as President of the Youth Department championing the call for the personal and professional development of the youth.
