Conor MacMahon
BA (Hons) Film and Television Production
Placement with Channel 5, London (June 2018 – June 2019)
Why did you apply to the University of Bradford?
I applied to the University of Bradford due to its reputable Media School. My first impression of the city was of its beautiful architecture and relaxed atmosphere, and my first impression of the university was how clean and modern it was. I enjoyed meeting new people in Bradford; everyone is generally very friendly and approachable.
Why did you choose that particular course? What did you like and enjoy most about the course?
I chose Film and Television Production as I was not sure at the time whether I wanted an occupation in film or television. This degree gave me a flavour of both industries.
What tips would you give to prospective students about the course at the University of Bradford and the university itself?
Film and Television Production at the University of Bradford is a mainly practical course, which is great if you want to gain industry hands-on experience. Having access to the media school’s Outside Broadcast Truck gives you the opportunity to produce live shows with the help of encouraging and knowledgeable tutors.
The university campus isn’t too big which means it doesn’t take long to walk to lectures. The campus is leafy and green which is uncommon in most inner-city campuses. Forget any preconceptions you have, Bradford is an up and coming, affordable city which most people love when they arrive!
What support have you received from Career and Employability Services / Placement Staff?
I got my CV tweaked in one of their drop-in sessions. This allowed me to pop in whenever I liked which was great. I also had access to a virtual learning site which provided me with the resources to help with placement hunting.
What action are you taking to improve your employability whilst at University?
I believe what I am doing now (taking a year out and going on placement) will improve my employability chances during and after university.
