While your young person is choosing a course and university, they will also be wondering how they’re going to pay for it.
We’ve gathered together a helpful resource for you and your young person to research their funding options.
What will it cost?
Before figuring out how to pay for a university course, it makes sense to first explore how much it will cost.
You'll find our tuition fees listed on each course page, as well as our Tuition fees page. You can also learn about additional costs while studying to ensure that you and your young person have accounted for everything that could spring up during the academic year.
Your young person will also want to get a rough idea of their living costs, such as accommodation, food, utilities and household items.
What funding options are available?
Loans
The UK Government will help undergraduate Home students with their tuition fees and living costs. Am I a Home student?
These loans are not like other debts. They are not income-assessed, do not have upfront costs, and do not affect a person's credit rating (yours or your young person's). They have low interest rates and a fixed repayment rate. They are only repaid if the young person earns over £25,000, with no repayments if they are on a low income.
There are two types of loans available: Tuition Loans, which cover all of their tuition fees upfront, and Maintenance Loans, which help with living costs.
Your young person will need to apply online at the UK Government's Student finance for undergraduates for both types of loans.
Grants
Some students can apply for extra help through student finance. These are grants, so they do not have to be repaid.
Grants that are funded through the UK government are part of the same online application as the tuition fee and maintenance loan.
The University of Bradford may also provides grants for specific circumstances. Our Student grants page lists the key government and University grants that may be available to your young person.
Scholarships and bursaries
Search our scholarships and bursaries page to discover more ways your young person may be assisted during their studies. Each scholarship or bursary will include information on how to apply, although many are applied automatically upon enrolment.
Who can provide advice?
Your young person can receive money and welfare information, advice and guidance from our experienced, professional Student Life Advisers. Impartial, confidential and private appointments are available both face-to-face or online.
