Richard is a Professor of Analytical Chemistry  and Director of the Analytical Centre at the University of Bradford; a specialist facility managing the major analytical equipment for the University. He joined Bradford in 2005 to manage commercial projects run through the Centre and continues to collaborate widely with industrial partners delivering continuously on multiple projects to the Pharmaceutical, Agrochemical, Healthcare and Specialty Chemical Sectors as Principle Investigator. He has delivered over £2.0m commercial research income since joining the University. Prior to this, Richard started his career at Zeneca (subsequently AstraZeneca and Syngenta) where he spent 8 years in characterisation functions at their HMC and Jealott’s Hill manufacturing and R&D sites as a Senior Analytical Chemist. He has extensive expertise in a broad range of analytical techniques including NMR, vibrational spectroscopy (Raman, FTIR), separation science (HPLC, GC, CE), mass spectrometry, thermal analysis (DSC, TGA, DMA), and electron microscopy (SEM, TEM), with a particular research interest in hyphenated techniques including DSC-Raman/FTIR/XRD (the focus of a recently co-authored book chapter for the RSC text “Principles of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry”).

Dr. Chris Sutton obtained his B.Sc. degree and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from University of Liverpool, with combined studies in the Department of Plant Molecular Biology, University of California, Berkeley. He was then a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, investigating the mechanisms of pathogenicity of Vibrio cholerae. He joined the premier of UK biotechnology company, Celltech Limited, as a Senior Scientist in Protein Biochemistry purifying novel proteins of therapeutic interest, and was later promoted to Group Leader of Analytical Biochemistry. With the emergence of mass spectrometry for protein characterisation, he moved to ThermoFinnigan and developed novel applications for matrix assisted laser desorption mass spectrometry (MALDI MS) including pioneering work in proteomics. He joined Kratos Analytical as MALDI MS Product Manager and was responsible for the marketing and promotion, including co-ordinating the research activity of a worldwide group of 25 application specialists who were developing MALDI MS solutions for the future. He was subsequently promoted to Business Manager for the MALDI MS product lines with a staff of 50, doubling revenues during this time to 10 million USD per annum. Since August 2005, he joined the Institute of Cancer Therapeutics in the University of Bradford as Senior Lecturer in Proteomics Chemistry and Mass Spectrometry. With the support of Yorkshire Cancer Research, he has develop three key areas of research (1) identification of new proteins as candidate diagnostic biomarkers, (2) identification of proteins affected by the action of anticancer drugs and (3) identification of new target proteins for anticancer drug development. He has developed collaborations with academic groups in Hull, York, Sheffield and Leeds within the UK and Cyprus and Pakistan. In addition to Chris joining the School of Chemistry and Biological Sciences, the Proteomics Facility, which he directs will be part of the Centre for Chemical and Biological Analysis.

Haseeb is a research technician in the Centre and manages the equipment (maintenance, expert use and training provision) in the area of mass spectrometry and spectroscopy. He has primary responsibility for the NMR and mass spectrometry laboratories.
