Visibility
Ensure that all technicians within the organisation are identifiable and that the contribution of technicians is visible within and beyond the institution.
The Technician Commitment is a sector-wide initiative led by the Science Council and the Gatsby Foundation, aimed at addressing key challenges facing technical staff.
The Commitment aims to ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians working in higher education and research, across all disciplines. Universities and research institutes are invited to become signatories of the Technician Commitment and develop an action plan to address the key challenges affecting their technical staff.
The University of Bradford is proud to be a signatory of the Technician Commitment and has produced a dedicated Action Plan with four target areas to safeguard the vital technical skills of our technicians and promote innovation and productivity within our technical workforce. The commitment will ensure greater visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for our technicians across all disciplines.
Ensure that all technicians within the organisation are identifiable and that the contribution of technicians is visible within and beyond the institution.
Support technicians to gain recognition through professional registration and external awards schemes.
Enable career progression opportunities for technicians through the provision of clear, documented career pathways
Ensure the future sustainability of technical skills across the organisation and that technical expertise is fully utilised.
Working alongside our technicians as part of the Technician Commitment, we have developed an Action Plan focused on the current status of our technicians and how we can support and develop them at the University over the next two years.
