Equality charters
The University of Bradford is a member of several equality charters and national schemes which aim to encourage an inclusive environment for work and study. Participation in these charters provides us with tools to increase access to opportunities for marginalised, minoritised and under-represented groups.
Athena Swan
The University of Bradford holds a institutional bronze Athena Swan award, all of our faculties and some schools also hold the bronze award.
The Athena Swan Charter was established in 2005 and is awarded to institutions that are leading examples of ensuring that women (and men in some departments) are properly represented in the workplace.

Disability Confident
The University are a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) and is working towards making an application for a Disability Confident Leader (Level 3) award.
Participation in Disability Confident encourages employers to think differently about disability and take action to improve how they recruit, retain, and develop disabled people. The scheme was developed by employers and disabled people’s representatives to make it rigorous but easily accessible, particularly for smaller businesses.

Advance HE's Race Equality Charter
In 2022, the University of Bradford was recognised with a bronze level Race Equality Charter. This provides a framework through which institutions work to identify and reflect on institutional and cultural barriers standing in the way of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff and students.

Stonewall Diversity Champion
We are a Stonewall Diversity Champion and we are working towards making a submission to the UK Workplace Equality Index.
The Stonewall Diversity Champions programme aims to help ensure all LGBTQ+ staff can reach their full potential. Diversity Champions receive support from Stonewall in the form of best practice toolkits and resources which allow organisations to learn from their experience of working with organisations across all sectors.

I’m delighted that the work of many colleagues across the University has been recognised with a Bronze Race Equality Charter award. More important than any award though, is that we’re standing up for, and delivering, better race equality outcomes in all the actions we take. We’re aware we have more to do in this regard, but its good to have independent verification that we’re on the right track.
